Joe Manganiello recently discovered that he’s 7% Sub-Saharan African, which has completely changed his understanding of himself.
The actor’s DNA reportedly has no matches with the Manganiello name and his father’s DNA was traced to a Black man.
He also found out his maternal great-grandmother was an Armenian refugee who was impregnated by a German officer.
Manganiello appears on PBS’s “Finding Your Roots” tv show, where people get to learn about their heritage and ancestors.
Despite the life-changing revelations on the show, Manganiello chose not to opt out of it.
The actor spoke about how things make more sense now that he knows he’s “descended from survivors."
Other celebrities have also participated in the genealogy show, including Edward Norton, Julia Roberts, and Claire Danes.
Manganiello’s DNA was traced to his great-grandfather, Plato Turner, who was born in Africa and got forced into slavery as a child.
The actor said the discovery has changed his sense of identity and now he sees himself “clearly for the first time.”
