Elon Musk is currently under federal investigation.

A new legal filing says as much, but many of the specifics are unknown.

The filing states that Musk is “presently under investigation by federal authorities for his conduct in connection with the acquisition of Twitter."

However, it does not state exactly what part of the acquisition is under investigation.

Financial analysts believe the investigation dates all the way back to January 2022.

Musk began quietly buying up shares in the company at that time, but did not disclose it until April.

Musk was required to publicly disclose his stake in the company when he hit 5%, but did not do so.

Some analysts suspect that he did not disclose his stake to keep buying up shares at, presumably, a lower price.

Musk has until October 28 to follow through with his Twitter acquisition before a new trial date is set for November.
