The drummer’s death prompted an outpouring of condolences from other musicians.

Longtime drummer DH Pellegro, who briefly joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has died at the age of 63, the Dead Kennedys say.

According to The official Instagram account of the punk bandPelegro died of head injuries after falling at his home in Los Angeles on Friday.

“Police at the scene said he died of blunt force trauma to the head caused by an accidental fall,” the band wrote. “Arrangements are pending and will be announced in the coming days. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

The band thanked fans for their condolences.

Pellegro, born Darren Henley, joined the Dead Kennedys in 1981, replacing original drummer Bruce “Ted” Schlessinger. After the band’s 1986 breakup, he briefly joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Red Hot Chili Peppers founder and bandmate Philly paid tribute on social media, calling Pellegro a “dear friend” and “brother”.

“Today I am devastated, a river of tears, but for the rest of my life I will cherish every second.” He wrote on Instagram. “The first time I saw you play with DK in 81, you blew my mind. The power, the spirit, the recklessness. You became my dear friend, all kinds of times… You will always be in our hearts. Live, you wild man, you joy-bringer, you big-hearted man.”

It was one of many social media tributes from fellow rockers, including Alice in Chains guitarist William Duvall. He is called “Dhol Hero”.and superchunk drummer John Worster Hailing him as “one of the absolute greats”.
