WASHINGTON — Ellen DeGeneres is asking fans to join her in paying tribute to Stephen “tWitch” Bass, her friend and longtime daytime talk show DJ.
tWitch died on Tuesday at the age of 40. Joined “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” in 2014 and was promoted to co-executive producer in 2020.
“All I want to do now is remember all the love and laughter I had with tWitch. She brought so much joy to my life.” DeGeneres tweeted. on Thursday. “I know he brings you joy too. I’m going to share some of my favorite moments with him. You can share yours if you want. #ILovetWitch.”
DeGeneres first connected with tWitch in 2010 when she wanted to recreate a performance from “So You Think You Can Dance.” She placed as runner-up in season 4 of the dance competition and later judged season 17.
DeGeneres’ tweet on Thursday included a tribute to tWitch that aired earlier this year before “Ellen” ended.
“I trust him to look at it and make silly jokes. He’s my friend, he’s my partner because we have this relationship, so just watching him makes me laugh. He really makes me laugh.” DeGeneres said at the time.
“I’m heartbroken,” DeGeneres said Wednesday after news of her death broke. “Twitch was pure love and light. He was my family, and I loved him with all my heart. I will miss him. Please send your love and support to Alison and her beautiful children – Wesley, Maddox and Zia. Send to.”
Oh Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Report confirmed that tWitch’s cause of death was suicide.
Following tWitch’s death, filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry opened up about his suicide attempts on Thursday. Perry said he tried to commit suicide a couple of times when he was in a dark place.
He urged anyone going through tough times and similar experiences to reach out to someone.
tWitch’s Wife, Alison Holker Bass, People said in a statement “Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family. Bone, the best husband and father, and was an inspiration to her. Fans.”
She ended her tribute with a message for her husband, “Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save you the last dance.”
The couple just celebrated Their 9 year wedding anniversary on Saturday and are the parents of three children.
